Breakthroughs in hair colouring and depilatory products

green chemicals plc, a developer of 'cleaner, greener and safer' chemicals, today unveils three breakthroughs for the personal care market - a novel hair bleaching and colouring system and a revolutionary depilatory.

The hair bleaching products are ammonia free and the permanent hair colouring is considered chemically safer and simpler than all other permanent hair dye products used by millions of women in the UK today. This means that permanent colouring can be applied and bleached as often as the user wishes with minimal damage done to the hair or skin.

The depilatory can be left on the skin almost indefinitely due to its pH nearly matching that of skin and has none of the odour problems normally associated with current market depilatories.

Commenting on the news, Professor David Lewis, Chief Scientific Officer of green chemicals, said: "For a long time I have held a very strong opinion that current hair dyeing products and processes need improvement. Our new system avoids many of the existing problems, with a very efficient pre-bleach that avoids the use of ammonium hydroxide and irritant persulphates. It offers a wider, more vibrant shade range and hair dyeings of almost perfect wash-durability and improved light-stability. In addition, our colour removal process allows complete removal of the dye from the dyed hair and immediate re-dyeing. The dyes used in our system are not the currently used oxidation dyes but are based on acid dyes typically used for wool, silk and food dyeing.

"A novel auxiliary product ensures that room temperature dyeing, associated with full dye penetration into the hair shaft, occurs in a regular manner within about fifteen minutes.

We have also developed a completely new depilatory system. Current products are of high alkalinity (pH13+) and have a strong sulphur odour whereas our system uses a completely new chemistry which avoids odour and high alkalinity."

Stephen Winston, Chief Executive of green chemicals, added: "Professor Lewis and his team have been researching and developing these products for many years and we are now ready to demonstrate these unique processes to the wider world. Their greener and safer credentials are key and we believe they have the potential to revolutionise the hair care and depilatory markets."

green chemicals is in early discussions with a number of the leading suppliers of hair colour treatment products and depilatories with a view to granting exclusive worldwide licences.

At the Company's Annual General Meeting held yesterday, all resolutions were duly passed.
